(3 hour(s)) Prerequisite(s): Admission to the MS in Biology Program. A study of the history, incidence, transmission, distribution, demographics, surveillance, causative factors, symptoms, laboratory diagnostic methods, treatments and control of diseases. Also included are common calculations such as attack, incidence, prevalence, morbidity, mortality and case fatality rates. Special emphasis will be placed on the forty two bacteria and fifteen viruses most often involved in epidemics, along with cancer epidemiology.
