(3 hours) In this course, students will examine current literature for children and adolescents and the role it plays in 21st century standards-driven classrooms. The course will increase students' awareness in recent trends in children's and YA literature and provide instruction on interdisciplinary integration, including STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics). Course topics will include; current literary works; trends, issues, and controversies in children's and YA literature; critical evaluation of children's and YA literature; and uses of children's literature in the pre-K-12 grades.
