(3 hours) Prerequisites: ENGL 111, 112 and 202. A study of the culturally diverse literary heritage of the United States from the colonial period to the present, especially focusing on African American, Native American, Hispanic, Asian American, and other authors from ethnic and immigrant backgrounds often overlooked in the traditional American canon. Authors studied may include Wheatley, Douglass, Hurston, Ellison, Morrison, Tan, Cisneros, and Momaday. Offered: Spring (even years, not every year)
