(3 hours) Prerequisite: HIST 211. An in-depth survey of the pre-Civil War period in American history, beginning with the Age of Jackson and examining political, social, geographic and economic development. A special emphasis will be placed on events and conditions leading up to the war. This course cannot be challenged.
